Can I legally sell Ag U.S. coins to someone in Canada?
I'm selling some 40% silver Kennedy halves on eBay at the moment and just noticed that my current high bidder lives in Canada. Can I legally sell these coins to that person if they're the high bidder? I've got about 120 halves for sale.

You're asking for legal advice on an internet website ? Really ?

Well Andy, I figured there would be people on here with more experience buying and selling coins than I have, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. ;)

I understand.....but if I was really worried about legalities ( and selling coins to a Canadian, I wouldn't even ask...I just do it ), I really really really wouldn't trust anything I read on the web. I'd want a lawyer with HUGE malpractice insurance. :D

It has never been illegal* to sell/exchange currency with a foreigner.
That's why the Chinese have so much USD. *at least if the currency is convertible |
Re: Can I legally sell Ag U.S. coins to someone in Canada?
I can't tell you about the legality or not- but I know this:
I buy from the US regularly (I'm in Canada) and know that as long as you don't ship as "bullion" everything is fine. Most savvy sellers ship as "souvenir rounds" or "base metal AG rounds" or "numismatic samples" and such. I am talking about the customs form at the post office. The word bullion makes them pissy. I have helped a few sellers get the goods to me and this advice has so far always been the ticket. Maybe you have sold to me? |
Re: Can I legally sell Ag U.S. coins to someone in Canada?
I usually avoid buying from the states, simply because of the increased shipping, but I have bought from dealers (ICCoin.net) and they shipped without hesitation. Given that they're a registered company, I presume they'd know the laws involved.

Yup ........ keep it in the "soverneir class" and you should be fine.
Though as silver continue to explode upward and monetary policy continues to spiral out of control ..... I do expect the rules to change. But for now ........run with it will the sun is shinning T |

If you look around ebay you will see that people buy and sell coins all the time cross borders. I think the thing you need to worry about is getting the money up front, and making sure that if Canada seizes the package for some reason that you dont bear the loss. That's a problem you'll have to figure out, and maybe someone here can talk more about that. But like Andy said you should not rely on this as legal advice. To get a decent answer from a lawyer you will probably have to give him the 140 halves :D |
Re: Can I legally sell Ag U.S. coins to someone in Canada?
Not sure about 40% or 90% coins. I've sold Gold eagles to one of our Canadian members without any hassles. There may be "tax issues" with the coins, but I figure that would be the recipients problem and not yours.

If you finish this transaction you will find yourself on the "list" and when they start rounding people up and moving them to FEMA camps you will be one of the first to go. Ask yourself is it worth it?
